Exemplar Schools

PBIS schools across Wisconsin have created a more positive environment for students and staff. Many of these schools have surpassed the benchmarks set for quality PBIS implementation.

In Spring of the 2010-11 school year the Wisconsin PBIS Network developed an application that schools could submit to be recognized as Wisconsin PBIS Network Schools of Merit. School of Merit is the first level in what will likely be a three level school recognition program for PBIS implementation in Wisconsin. To be recognized as a School of Merit, schools had to demonstrate at least 11 of these 13 criteria:

  • At least 3 people from the school attended days 1 and 2 of Universal Team Training.
  • School took the Benchmarks of Quality in the 2010-11 school year and got a score of at least 70%.
  • School has taken at least one Self-Assessment Survey.
  • School has taken at least one Team Implementation Checklist.
  • School identifies at least one Internal Coach.
  • School lists at least 3 PBIS Team members.
  • School lists at least 8 PBIS Team meeting dates in the 2010-11 school year.
  • School reports Office Discipline Referral counts for all months of the 2010-11 school year.
  • School mentions the role of the administrator in their PBIS system.
  • School mentions having both an Internal and External Coach in the PBIS system.
  • School mentions using the Big 5 for data analysis.
  • School mentions or demonstrates problem solving around data.
  • School mentions creating or using an action plan based on fidelity data.

Twenty three schools completed applications and met at least 11 of those 13 criteria.  Schools recognized as Wisconsin PBIS Network Schools of Merit for the 2010-11 school year are:

PBIS in Action

PBIS schools across Wisconsin have created a more positive environment for students and staff by establishing clear expectations for their students and taking active steps in teaching, modeling and reinforcing appropriate behaviors school wide.

Wisconsin schools have been implementing PBIS since the Fall of 2006, with rapid growth in the number of trained PBIS schools in Wisconsin occurring within the last two years. As of January 15, 2012, over 795 schools in 192 districts in Wisconsin have attended PBIS training.
