Kent Smith
Regional Technical
Assistance Coordinator
Hello-
My name is Kent Smith and I am excited to be a part of the Wisconsin PBIS Network! I have been a Network Trainer for Tier I and II for two years and along with being a school social worker in Eau Claire, have been the PBIS Coordinator for the Eau Claire Area School District and the coalition of surrounding school districts since 2009. I got involved with PBIS in 2008 through an "independent study" with Lucille and Steve from the Illinois Network and things grew from there. I have learned a great deal from them and other TACs and districts in Wisconsin, and am excited to be able to pay this knowledge forward. In addition to my general interest in PBIS, I have a strong interest in culturally relevant practices, and am excited to be able to start work on trying to blend culturally relevant practices with a PBIS framework.
I came to school social work after an earlier career in Child Protective Services (abuse investigation and court disposition) and in-home family therapy. While I found that job rewarding, it was a reactive system which disagreed with how I wanted to operate. PBIS in a school setting is a wonderful and proactive system that allows us to support ALL students and staff.
I look forward to meeting more people around the state and look forward to working with many of you again!
