Preconference Sessions

We will again be offering preconference sessions on August 13, 2018. The following sessions will be offered:

Exploring Behavior Skills within Academic Instruction

9:00am - 3:00pm

Cost: $65

Registration

Presenters: Lori Cameron, Jennifer Grenke, Sarah Nelson and Liz Ponto, regional technical assistance coordinators, Wisconsin RtI Center

PBIS is a framework for defining, teaching and supporting student behaviors to create positive school environments. All behavior skills, including school procedures, social emotional learning, and college and career ready skills need to be taught and supported. The focus for this workshop will be on universal classroom practices; defining and integrating these behavior skills into academic instruction. Participants will have opportunities to create or refine classroom matrices and create integrated lesson plans.

Session Objectives:

  • Draft/Revise a classroom matrix that supports an academic instructional framework to identify the skills necessary for students to be successful in the classroom and beyond
  • Analyze academic lesson plans to identify behavior skills necessary for students to engage in and experience success with academic lessons
  • Integrate the elements of teaching behavior skills within academic instruction
  • Determine training and ongoing support methods for engaging staff and stakeholders

What Does an Equitable Multi-level System of Support have to do with PBIS? (For Teams)

9:00am - 3:00pm

Cost: $65

Registration

Presenters: Paula Fernandez, Deidra Gorman, Milaney Leverson, Dan Seaman, regional technical assistance coordinators, Wisconsin RtI Center

Audience: Leadership, PBIS or Multi-level System of Support teams with 2 or more people attending. Administration strongly encouraged but not required.

Equity: Every student has access to the educational resources and rigor they need at the right moment in their education across race, gender, ethnicity, language, disability, sexual orientation, family background and/or family income (CCSSO, 2017). Teams will utilize data to examine their systems, policies, and practices for opportunities to enhance equity in their school or district. Once identified, teams will develop long and short term action plans to address those areas.

Create a Coherent System of Support; A Jump Start to Making it Happen

9:00am - 3:00pm

Cost: $65

Registration

Presenters: Heidi Erstad,  Heidi Laabs, Yuliana Manriquez, and Michelle Polzin, regional technical assistance coordinators, Wisconsin RtI Center

Audience: District level leadership teams are strongly encouraged, PBIS external coaches, RTI coordinators, school and district level administrators/leaders, leadership teams or other educators engaged in systems-level implementation of Equitable Multi-level Systems of Supports.

Purpose: This session is designed for teams from schools and districts that are at the exploration, infrastructure building or initial states of using district-level implementation teams looking to create an integrated model of Equitable Multi-level Systems of Supports.

Do you have multiple teams that work on supporting students, such as PBIS, mental health, trauma sensitive, universal reading or math, and so on? Are these teams linked so that they form a coherent and aligned system that operates efficiently and effectively? Would your district or school building benefit from using a framework or blueprint to guide the work of these teams?

This session will address how leadership teams can move from "letting it happen" or "helping it happen" to "making it happen" through the use of Wisconsin Equitable Multi-level Systems of Supports Framework and other evidence-based resources. Strategies for mapping teams and initiatives, aligning initiatives to a common purpose, and linking teams for more efficient and effective systems will be presented. Examples of how Wisconsin schools and districts are doing this work will also be provided so that participants will leave with a plan for how to get started, as well as know how to access ongoing technical assistance and support.
