PBIS in Action

PBIS schools across Wisconsin have created a more positive environment for students and staff by establishing clear expectations for their students and taking active steps in teaching, modeling and reinforcing appropriate behaviors school wide.

Wisconsin schools have been implementing PBIS since the Fall of 2006, with rapid growth in the number of trained PBIS schools in Wisconsin. As of July 1, 2016, 1,174 schools in 265 districts in Wisconsin have attended PBIS training.

Of those 1,174 trained schools, 924 are implementing (79%) as demonstrated by completion of at least one Self-Assessment Survey (SAS), Team Implementation Checklist (TIC), School-wide Evaluation Tool (SET), Benchmarks of Quality (BoQ), or Tiered Fidelity Inventory (TFI) on the PBIS Assessment website. Of the 924 implementing schools, 734 schools (79%) have demonstrated fidelity of implementation.

Schools implementing PBIS with fidelity meet one or more of the following requirements:

  • 80% or higher on the Expectations Taught Subscale and the Overall Scale of the School-wide Evaluation Tool (SET)
  • 80% or higher on the Team Implementation Checklist (TIC)
  • 80% or higher on the School-wide System score on the Self-Assessment Survey (SAS)
  • 70% or higher on the Benchmarks of Quality (BoQ)
  • 70% on the Tiered Fidelity Inventory Tier 1 (TFI)

PBIS schools that experience the most positive outcomes from PBIS implementation are implementing PBIS at or above fidelity. The OSEP Technical Assistance Center on PBIS has created the PBIS Assessmentwebsite to assist schools in collecting fidelity information. These fidelity tools and a timeline for using them are described on the Fidelity Tools page.

PBIS schools also need to have a system for collecting and aggregating Office Discipline Referral data to be used for data-based decision making. SWIS was developed by the OSEP Technical Assistance Center on PBIS for this purpose.
